Early 18th Century Oak Coffer Chest
Incredible early 18th Century Oak coffer, chest.
Of a larger than usual size. Four deeply carved panels to the front. The Oak has aged to a gorgeous deep tone. Raised on simple stile legs.
There are lots of evidence of age, the top is later, long ago replaced and there are the holes to the back from the original hook & loop hinges. The stiles were once much taller but as is usual for a coffer of this age they have been worn and eaten down by borers. Although the borers are long gone there are still holes in numerous places, which is what you want to see as evidence of its history. It is strong and ready to store your blankets for many years to come.
It measures 1583mm long x 620mm deep x 595mm high.
The colour may be slightly different depending on your screen. All of our furniture is Antique or Vintage and has patina.
When we restore pieces we never take them back to raw as this lessens the integrity of a piece. Patina is the build up of little marks and scratches over the many years of the life of an antique, these give it a lovely warm overall appearance.
If there are any major marks or defects we will always point them out either in the description and or photos. If you need more photos just let us know. Inspections welcome. Pop into our shop.
